Washington Nationals All-Time Team

We are officially at the end of the first full decade of Washington Nationals baseball, and after the 2019 World Series victory, The Sideline Observer is taking a trip down memory lane.

Our staff has compiled an All-Decade Team of the best players to wear the curly W since 2010.

Manager: Davey Martinez.

He needs no explanation. Martinez took a talented team with a phobia of the NLDS and steered them to postseason success. The players love him, and so do we.

Bullpen:

  • Sean Doolittle — three saves in 22 innings in the 2019 postseason
  • Daniel Hudson — he missed some of the NLCS for his daughter’s birth and still saved the last out of the World Series.
  • Matt Capps — converted 26 of 30 save opportunities in 2010
  • Drew Storen — best season was 2011 when he recorded 43 saves
  • Tyler Clippard — he recorded 38 holds in 2011, he and Storen were a dominant team
  • Sean Burnett — posted 31 holds in 2012, he and Storen were also a dominant pair.
  • Ryan Mattheus — his intro music was “Firework” by Katy Perry, and he got three outs on two pitches in the 2012 NLDS

Starting Rotation:

  1. Max Scherzer — it’s hard to pinpoint Scherzer’s best season, but we’re going to have to go with 2015 where he recorded two no-hitters
  2. Stephen Strasburg — 2019 World Series MVP
  3. Jordan Zimmermann — first-team no-hitter in 2012
  4. Gio Gonzalez — his best season was in 2012 when he went 21-8 with 207 strikeouts
  5. Livan Hernandez — 10-12 in over 200 innings in 2010
