Scene of the Week: Washington Hires Ron Rivera as Head Coach, Fires GM Bruce Allen
Washington Football made some serious moves following their loss to the Dallas Cowboys this past Sunday. Throughout the week, it was reported that Washington was interested in Rivera along with former Bengals Head Coach Marvin Lewis. As the days passed, Rivera heading to DC seemed more and more likely, until Ian Rappaport finally confirmed the move. The Carolina (team) fired Rivera earlier in the season and was expected to land a new head coaching job soon. It came faster than some expected, and Rivera is now a part of Washington’s troubled football team.
And while the news of Rivera sending it to Washington is great for most fans, the firing of GM Bruce Allen is even better. Allen had been in charge of football operations in Washington for 10 years until Monday Morning when Dan Synder released a statement announcing Allen would be relieved of his duties. Washington now has a decision to make at the GM position.
Take of the Week: Bills Upset Texans in Wild Card Weekend
The Buffalo Bills take on the Houston Texans next week in Houston, and the winner will advance to the Divisional Round to take on either the Chiefs or the Ravens. The Bills had a fantastic season, finishing 10-6 and clinching the fifth seed in the AFC. The Texans also had a decent season, finishing 10-6 and winning the AFC South.
I predict the Bills will upset the Texans and advance to the Divisional Round. The Bills are a talented team, and have taken quality wins against the Steelers, Titans, and Cowboys. Led by QB Josh Allen, this team has exceeded many people’s expectations and will get a chance to represent Buffalo in the 2019 NFL Playoffs. I think Houston folds under pressure just like they did in 2018, and Buffalo wins a close one.
Giants Fire Pat Shurmur, Browns Fire Freddie Kitchens
After two years in charge, the New York Giants have fired Head Coach Pat Shurmer after going 9-23 in New York. After drafting Saquon Barkley in 2018 and Daniel Jones in 2019, the Giants had expectations to be at least a respectable football team. Unfortunately, that expectation has fallen through. The Giants have been a laughing stock of a team and hope to turn it around with some quality drafting and a good head coach.
The Cleveland Browns have fired Freddie Kitchens after one year in charge. The Browns had huge expectations this year, with many predicting them to win the AFC North. Instead, the team went 6-10, and Kitchens took the blame for it. The Browns now look to find a replacement for Kitchens, and finally get into the playoffs.
